Sonia Dugay School of Dancing SDSD

Founded in 2005, we are a family dance school, aiming to show that learning to dance is fun and enjoyable whilst expecting good results. Dancing is a wonderful way to stay fit and also exercise the mind at the same time. We teach Ballet, Modern, Tap, Acrobatics, and Lyrical. Acrobatics is similar to gymnastic floorwork. The children can start with us from the age of 3 and we have classes for all ages, including an adult class for Ballet and Modern. Most of our classes are on a Saturday but the older more advanced class is on a Monday evening. The adult class is on a Wednesday and we also have a fun troupe night on Wednesday. Sunday afternoons are spent on private lessons where children who are a bit more serious about dance have 1 to 1 sessions to learn solos for competitions.

We are lucky that we have the warmest, friendliest group of children that attend our classes who are so talented and raise our spirits every lesson. Some of their comments are 'Dance Classes are fun' 'We are glad the teacher is not strict !' and one of the parents recently commented that ' I honestly think, dance is all that is getting her through her GCSE exams right now'

Our Teachers

Our Principal Sonia, started dancing at the age of 4 years old, having fallen in love with this wonderful art. She learned Ballet, Modern, Tap and Acrobatic dance and continued learning throughout her teenage years.

At the age of 15 she danced with 'Spotlight Cabaret Revue Company'' until leaving school and attending a full time dance teaching college where she qualified as a dance teacher with the ISTD; later, with IDTA.

At 19 Sonia performed professionally in Europe, including, Spectacular Cabaret companies such as Scala Ballet , Gin-Pac and Ferrante Productions.

In 2005, she wanted to build a school similar to the school that she had attended as a child, where the children were friends, played together, went to competitions, performed in shows and even their parents were friends. In essence, this dream was realised and now some of the children who started with her are going on to make their own dance dream come true at professional colleges and dance universities.

Teacher/Choreographer and Events Manager, Jasmine started dancing from the moment she could walk and showed talent particularly in acrobatic dance. She won a dance scholarship to continue her dance studies and has performed in many productions, including professional pantomime, plus competed in competitions at national level. She is now following her dream of teaching dance to children and specialises in both Modern dance and Acrobatics.

Jo is our resident Costume Designer and Uniform Manager, and has been involved in dance for many years. She still helps out with some of the classes and has made hundreds of beautiful costumes.
